I suppose I deserve it
Last week one of my colleagues fell down and broke her foot and now has to be in one of those boots for the next month. Being who I am, of course, I made fun of her like crazy. Who falls down? Sober! And breaks an ENTIRE foot? She just slipped and wiped out now she's like an invalid. Every time she hobbles into my office, I make some comment like how she needs one of those life alert necklaces or how hip replacement surgery will be next.
Then the other day I was trying to reach a friend of mine who wasn't returning my e-mails, and finally she called me and said she wasn't at work that day because she took the day off to rake leaves in her yard. Really?!? People are now calling in "yardwork?" It's the dumbest thing I ever heard, so of course I made fun of her like crazy. Like, "Oh yeah, I just called in last week so I could rearrange my sock drawer."
Cut to yesterday, I was walking home from the post office. It was raining on and off and the sidewalks were wet. As I took a step, my right foot slipped on a wet leaf, and I totally wiped out. It was one of those falls that seemed to go in slow motion, like it took five minutes for me to finally come crashing down to the ground. I skinned my hands and knees. My laptop went flying and I totally twisted and hurt my ankle/foot. Only one person saw, but he was clearly uncomfortable with the situation becasue it was a GIANT fall. When I got up, I couldn't walk very well on my right foot. And it's only gotten worse. It's swollen and super painful, and hard to walk on.
Falling. Injured foot. Leaves. It's karma!
I wish I could say this taught me a lesson and I will stop making fun of others, but unfortunately making fun of people is like breathing for me - injured or not.

I'm also trying hard not to laugh. There are tons of wet leaves, here, at the moment - you never know. Karma might work across oceans and over the net, too.
